Don't attempt to homeschool without these books...

Friends have sometimes asked me where to start a home library. My attempt at a list of books, besides the Bible and Pilgrim's Progress, every family with children age 12 and under should own; not borrow, not read once, but actually have as a friend who lives in their home:

The Complete Tales and Poems of Winnie-the-Pooh

Aesop for Children

Daulaires Book of Greek Myths

Favorite Poems Old and New

The Real Mother Goose

Beatrix Potter Complete Tales

Thornton Burgess Animal Stories

Just So Stories

The Little House Collection Box Set

The Chronicles of Narnia Boxed Set

If you have a son, add:

My Father's Dragon

The Swiss Family Robinson

If you have a daughter, add:

Betsy-Tacy and its sequels

Anne of Green Gables

Any of the books from this picture book list or this elementary level reading list would be nice additions, once you have the basic books in your home.

Wow, we've read all of these and own all but 2 (Greek Myths & Favorite Poems, both on my to-buy list). Swiss Family Robinson is one of my all time favorite books!!
